The roadshow for Datsun’s first hatchback, the GO, has begun and the company will be looking to cover all major cities through it. The upcoming halt for the hatchback will be the Auto Expo and the car is likely to be released immediately following that. The cost of the GO will be about Rs 4 lakh and the car is to get power from a three cylinder, 1.2-litre petrol engine.
The Go has been based on the same platform as that of the Micra but will be sold as part of the Datsun brand. Datsun has been incorporated as a brand new brand under the umbrella of Nissan and will have a large number of parts which are manufactured locally for its products. These products will look to target audiences locally and will also be produced as per local requirements.
The GO in itself will be targeting buyers who are purchasing cars for the first time. The idea here is to have a car which is not only cost effective but a fantastic value for money proposition as well. The vehicle will be sold through the current Nissan dealerships but shall not be part of Hover Automotive India’s channel, like the Nissan cars were. This will mean that a new marketing strategy will have to be developed by the brand. The Datsun will also get as many as two more products in the coming years with one being a UV and the other a hatchback which is rumoured to be even smaller than the GO.
