Ford EcoSport Review – Value for Money SUV

Ford announced its expected entry in the compact SUV segment by showing concept Ford Eco Sport in recently held Auto Expo in New Delhi. Compact SUV segment is already gaining strong hold in Indian Automobile market and with the announcement of Ford EcoSport, it surely will boost more. The EcoSport will be available in 3 engine variants – The 1.5L petrol and diesel (from Ford Fiesta) and 1.0 L, 3 cylinder petrol engine called Ecoboost. Ford Ecosport is little less than 4m in length with ground clearance of 200m which brings it between SUV and Hatchbacks.

Ford Ecosport Review

Although with size it may look cute SUV but Ford has made sure that with its shape and design it looks as a small beast. The front is cleverly aerodynamically designed to give it that extra power and perfect cut shape with innovative front grille giving extra spark to its small beastly look. Furthermore this aerodynamic design makes Ford Ecosport drag coefficient 0.37, which is highly impressive. The spare wheel according to guidelines is attached at the rear thus giving an extra space in the boot (which already is very less), the tail lamps also does not look like out of line.

Interiors gives you hint of older cars of Ford like Ford Fiesta and Ford Figo. With its Dashboard having simple build and plastic quality, it leaves little to say further. The interior space is clumsy if measured from SUV standards but enough legroom and headroom space makes for this short coming. Further rear seats can be split into 60:40 ratio to make that extra space, and reclining backrests are also given with already set positions, dark interior along with small windows makes overall interiors above average.

The Ecosport base variant comes with telescopic steering, 15-inch wheels, music player with AUX and bluetooth, central locking, multi function lighted display and higher variant has 16-inch wheels (which company says can be increased to 17 inch in future), steering mounted audio control, cooled glovebox(like in Hyundai i-20), front fog lamps, push button start, keyless entry, rear parking sensor, Ford’s voice operated sync system, climate control feature. Also Ford has given special importance to safety by providing front, side and curtain airbags.

Among the 3 variants of engine the 1.0 L, Ecoboost 3 cylinder turbocharged direct ignition petrol engine is most talked about as it is making its debut in India. Other variants are 110bhp 1.5 L petrol and 90bhp 1.5 diesel, petrol version will also have option of 6 speed dual clutch automatic transmission.

Although compact SUV but cabin is very noise free and you don’t feel engine noise or vibration even while engine is idle. Some variants has automatic transmission option but manual transmission also works very smooth and gear shifting is very sharp.

Ford Ecosport is the most hyped SUV of the year. Overall Ford Ecosport is good quality compact SUV with nice driving quality. Suspension system further improves ride quality and with mileage of 18.3Kmpl it is nice bet to buy for its price. Recommended.
